Bring on Silva vs. Hendricks

I'm a big Johny Hendricks (left) fan, but I think right now among 170 pounders, Erick Silva is the man, Hendricks next, then GSP. Just watch him sneak this triangle choke onto his opponent from last weekend's UFC in Brazil. I couldn't believe Silva didn't fall off because he was so high, but Silva obviously has great leg control.  Standing, Silva moves like a cat, and I can't wait until he meets Hendricks after Hendricks beats GSP.

Most people fall off from a high position because their legs are wrapped around the opponents chest and they get dumped off. Silva immediately isolated the arm so was able to lock in and keep position. Notice that he throws his right leg over the opponents shoulder as soon as he takes his back. He wasn't ever going for the choke here. And it helps that the other guy didn't have much jiujitsu experience.

Silva's really got the stuff. Any match between the three guys you mentioned should be very exciting.

Sorry, GSP is going to easily dodge the big left that Hendricks throws predictably, and then GSP will get the takedown. Johny will be lost on his back.

Eric, you definitely have these guys massively out-weighted and muscled, and you were a wrestler. DO you think you could take one of them in a match?

heh. Well, I still wrestle a little bit as a coach for kids, so I kinda know my limitations being in the room a lot. Ignoring the fact that I'm recovering from right shoulder surgery from last January, I'd say any D1 wrestler over 160 pounds would kick my butt. World class guys like this would toy with me. They just are crazy fast, skilled, and while I might beat them in some heavy lifts, I bet their grip strength is twice mine.

Demian Maia would be an interesting match up for either one of these guys. HIs takedown game has improved tremendously over the years and his submission game was world-class to begin with. Besides wrestling is great but in my opinion BJJ is the king of the martial arts.

Btw, I'm reading this blog because I just finished reading your book The Missing Risk Premium. I really enjoyed it because I found the idea that there was no such thing as a bad investment, possible higher returns made up for any level of risk, to seem really silly. It just couldn't be right. It's good to see that there really are bad investments and that they are pretty easy to identify.
