Very helpful for countering the biases arising from seeing his writings all from one man's (his) point of view.<br /><br />Your linked list of biases did not include the "two-valued orientation" (see S.I. Hayakawa). Fortunately you kindly supplied an example yourself in:<br /><br />" being from Cleveland someone said to me, 'Do you know Joe down the hall? He's from Cincinnati?' "<br /><br />This is a common and sensible remark. Classifying all humans as either a member of "your group" or not is an example of the two-valued orientation because you are a member of many groups. There is a continuum of interest groups from the closest (such as immediate family) to the broadest and weakest which depending on the person may be their race,country, continent, etc. <br /><br />Even if you considered yourself such a citizen of the world that being from the same state meant nothing to you, others would be more likely to notice and mention the connection, leading to introduction.
